What Is an IBC Tote?
An IBC tote (Intermediate Bulk Container) is a pallet-mounted, industrial-grade container designed for storing and transporting liquids, granular materials, and semi-solids in bulk. The most common design features a blow-molded HDPE (high-density polyethylene) inner bottle housed within a welded tubular steel cage, mounted on an integrated pallet base.
IBC totes bridge the gap between 55-gallon drums and full-size tank trucks. A standard 275-gallon IBC holds five times the volume of a drum while occupying a single pallet footprint of 40" x 48", making them extraordinarily space-efficient. They are designed for forklift and pallet jack handling, and most models can be stacked two-high when full.
The 2" bottom-discharge butterfly valve allows gravity-fed dispensing, and the 6" (150mm) top fill cap provides easy filling access. This combination of capacity, portability, and dispensing convenience has made IBC totes the preferred container for industries ranging from food processing to chemical manufacturing.
IBC Tote Anatomy
- HDPE Bottle
Blow-molded high-density polyethylene inner container. UV-stabilized, FDA-compliant in food-grade models. Translucent for level visibility.
- Steel Cage
Galvanized tubular steel frame welded in a grid pattern. Protects the bottle, enables stacking, and provides forklift handling points.
- Top Fill Cap
6" (150mm) screw-on cap with integrated gasket. Provides splash-proof seal and wide opening for filling, cleaning, and inspection.
- Butterfly Valve
2" (DN50) bottom-discharge butterfly valve with lever handle. Enables precise flow control and gravity dispensing.
- Pallet Base
48" x 40" integrated pallet in steel, wood, or composite. 4-way forklift and pallet jack entry. Channels liquid drainage.
- Identification Plate
Stamped metal plate showing manufacturer, date of manufacture, UN rating, maximum gross weight, and tare weight.
275 vs 330 Gallon Totes
Both sizes share the same 40" x 48" pallet footprint. The 330-gallon model gains capacity through additional height, adding roughly 7 inches to the overall container.

Available Grades
Every IBC tote we sell is inspected and assigned a letter grade based on cosmetic condition, structural integrity, and previous contents. Our grading is transparent so you know exactly what you are paying for.
Single-use or lightly used totes in excellent cosmetic and structural condition. Minimal scuffing, no staining, clear or near-clear bottles. Labels removed. Valves and gaskets in original or like-new condition.
Best For
Food-grade applications, potable water storage, clean chemical transfer, pharmaceutical intermediates, and any application where appearance and cleanliness matter.
Pricing
Highest price point of used totes, still 30-50% below new retail
Used totes with moderate cosmetic wear including light scuffing, minor label residue, and slight discoloration. Structurally sound with fully functional valves and intact cages. May show some yellowing in HDPE bottle.
Best For
General industrial liquid storage, non-potable water, agricultural chemicals, coolant storage, soap and detergent, and most manufacturing applications.
Pricing
Mid-range pricing, 50-65% below new retail
Totes with heavier cosmetic wear including noticeable staining, scratches, and label residue. Bottles may be opaque or significantly yellowed. All Grade C totes remain structurally sound and leak-free but show clear signs of extended use.
Best For
Non-critical storage, rainwater collection, waste fluid containment, construction site water, irrigation, and budget-conscious applications where appearance is not a concern.
Pricing
Most affordable option, 60-75% below new retail

View ProductsHow We Source Our Totes
Our IBC totes come directly from first-use manufacturers, food processors, beverage companies, chemical distributors, and pharmaceutical producers throughout the Midwest. We have established long-term relationships with dozens of suppliers who provide a consistent, high-volume flow of used containers.
Every tote is tracked from the moment it enters our supply chain. We document the source facility, previous contents, date of manufacture, and condition at intake. This chain-of-custody data travels with the tote through our grading, cleaning, and reconditioning processes, giving you full transparency about what you are buying.
We are selective about what we accept. Totes that previously held toxic, regulated, or incompatible substances are separated and routed to our recycling program rather than resale. This ensures that every tote in our sales inventory is safe for its intended next use.
Verified Sources
We only source from established manufacturers and processors with documented handling practices. No unknown or unverified origins.
Previous Contents Tracking
Every tote in our inventory has a record of what it previously held. Food-grade totes are sourced exclusively from food and beverage producers.
