Built on Hard Work,
Driven by Purpose
Fort Wayne IBC Recycling was founded in 2016 by a family that saw opportunity where others saw waste. Working in northeast Indiana's manufacturing corridor, our founders noticed something troubling: perfectly usable IBC totes were being discarded by the hundreds every month. Food processors, chemical manufacturers, and agricultural businesses were sending single-use containers straight to the landfill because there was no convenient, affordable alternative.
So they bought a flatbed truck, rented a small lot, and started knocking on doors. The pitch was simple: let us take those used totes off your hands. We will clean them, inspect them, and sell them to someone who needs an affordable container. You save on disposal costs. Your totes stay out of the landfill. Everybody wins.
That straightforward idea resonated. Within six months, we had more totes than we could store. Within a year, we moved into our first real facility on Speedway Drive — the same location where our expanded operation stands today at 4907 Speedway Dr, Fort Wayne, IN 46825.
By the Numbers
Growth Milestones
From a one-truck operation to a regional recycling leader — here is how we grew, year by year.
Humble Beginnings
Started with a single flatbed truck and a handshake deal with a local food manufacturer. Our founders began collecting used IBC totes that would have otherwise ended up in landfills, cleaning them by hand, and reselling them to small businesses across Allen County.
First Dedicated Facility
Moved into our first 5,000 sq ft warehouse on Speedway Drive in Fort Wayne. Invested in a professional triple-rinse cleaning system and began offering reconditioned IBC totes with quality guarantees for the first time.
Expanded Service Area
Grew our pickup and delivery fleet to four trucks, extending our service radius to cover all of Indiana and parts of Ohio, Michigan, and Illinois. Processed our 10,000th IBC tote and hired our first full-time cleaning crew.
Full Recycling Capability
Added end-of-life recycling infrastructure including HDPE granulation and steel baling equipment. For the first time, we could process totes that were beyond reconditioning — achieving our goal of zero totes to landfill.
50,000 Totes Milestone
Reached the milestone of 50,000 IBC totes processed through our facility. Expanded our warehouse to 15,000 sq ft, launched our online grading system, and introduced the Buy Back Program for businesses with surplus inventory.
Regional Leader
Recognized as the Midwest's premier IBC recycling operation. Now serving over 200 businesses across six states with a team of 18 dedicated employees, all working toward a single mission: keep every IBC tote out of the landfill.
Our Core Values
These are not slogans on a wall. They are the principles we use to make decisions every single day, from the warehouse floor to the boardroom.
Sustainability First
Every decision we make is filtered through one question: is this the most environmentally responsible option? From the cleaning agents we use to the routes our trucks drive, sustainability is non-negotiable.
Radical Transparency
We grade every tote honestly and disclose its full history. Our customers know exactly what they are buying — no hidden damage, no misleading labels, no surprises. Trust is the foundation of repeat business.
Community Roots
We are Fort Wayne through and through. We hire locally, source locally, and reinvest locally. Our success is tied to the prosperity of this community, and we never forget where we came from.
Continuous Improvement
We constantly refine our processes to extract more value from every tote, reduce waste further, and improve turnaround times. Good enough is never good enough when the planet is at stake.
People Who Care About
What They Do
Our 18-person team includes warehouse operators, cleaning specialists, quality inspectors, logistics coordinators, and customer service professionals. What unites them is a genuine passion for the work and a shared belief that what we do matters.
We hire from the Fort Wayne community and invest heavily in training. Every team member understands the full lifecycle of an IBC tote — from the moment it arrives at our dock to the moment it ships out cleaned, graded, and ready for its next life. That knowledge translates into better quality, faster turnaround, and smarter problem-solving.
We believe a fair wage, a safe workplace, and a sense of purpose are not extras — they are requirements. Our turnover rate is well below the industry average because people want to work somewhere that aligns with their values.
Safety Record
Over 750 consecutive days without a lost-time incident. We take every precaution to keep our team safe.
Local Hiring
100% of our team lives in the Fort Wayne metropolitan area. We are building careers, not just filling positions.
Ongoing Training
Every employee receives 40+ hours of annual training covering safety protocols, environmental compliance, and quality standards.
Community Involvement
Our team volunteers with local environmental nonprofits, participates in river cleanups, and mentors students interested in sustainability careers.
15,000 Sq Ft of Purpose-Built
Recycling Infrastructure
Our facility at 4907 Speedway Dr, Fort Wayne, IN 46825 is the operational heart of everything we do. What started as a modest 5,000 square foot warehouse has been expanded and upgraded three times to become a 15,000 square foot state-of-the-art IBC recycling and reconditioning center.
The facility is organized into dedicated zones for intake and inspection, cleaning and reconditioning, quality assurance, inventory storage, and materials recovery. This layout allows us to process up to 200 IBC totes per week while maintaining the highest quality and safety standards.
Key equipment includes our industrial triple-rinse cleaning line with closed-loop water reclamation, HDPE granulation machinery for end-of-life plastic processing, a steel baling press for cage recycling, pressure testing stations for leak detection, and a climate-controlled quality inspection area with controlled lighting.
Community Involvement
We believe that a business is only as strong as the community that supports it. That is why we invest time, resources, and energy into making Fort Wayne and northeast Indiana a better place to live and work.
School Education Programs
We host field trips and classroom visits for local middle and high school students, teaching them about recycling, the circular economy, and careers in sustainability. Over 500 students have toured our facility since 2020.
River Cleanup Partnerships
Our team sponsors and participates in quarterly cleanups along the St. Marys, St. Joseph, and Maumee rivers. In 2024, our crew removed over 2,000 pounds of debris from Fort Wayne waterways.
Community Garden Donations
We donate cleaned IBC totes to community gardens and urban farms for rainwater harvesting and irrigation. To date, we have provided over 200 totes at no cost to nonprofit growing programs across Allen County.
Local Nonprofit Sponsorships
We proudly sponsor the Fort Wayne Trails, Allen County SPCA, and the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership. We believe investing locally creates the kind of community where businesses and families thrive.
Sustainability Workshops
Our team conducts free sustainability workshops at community centers and libraries, helping residents and small business owners understand practical ways to reduce waste and make more environmentally responsible choices.
Veterans Employment Initiative
We actively recruit military veterans for positions at our facility. Veterans bring discipline, teamwork, and a strong work ethic that aligns perfectly with our operational culture. Currently, four of our 18 team members are veterans.
Environmental Certifications & Commitments
Our certifications and commitments demonstrate our dedication to operating at the highest environmental and safety standards in the IBC recycling industry.
Zero Landfill Certified
Since 2021, we have maintained a verified zero-landfill policy. Every IBC tote that enters our facility is either reconditioned for reuse or fully disassembled for materials recovery. This certification is audited annually by an independent environmental consultant.
EPA Compliance
We operate in full compliance with all applicable EPA regulations for wastewater discharge, air quality, and hazardous materials handling. Our facility undergoes regular inspections and has maintained a perfect compliance record since opening.
IDEM Registered
Registered with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) as an approved recycling and reconditioning facility. Our operations meet all state-level environmental requirements for industrial recycling businesses.
UN/DOT Reconditioning Authorization
Authorized to recondition IBC totes for UN/DOT-regulated hazardous material transport. This certification requires rigorous testing protocols and ensures our reconditioned totes meet the same safety standards as new containers.
OSHA Safety Compliance
Our facility meets all OSHA safety requirements for warehouse operations, chemical handling, and employee protection. We maintain over 750 consecutive days without a lost-time safety incident.
Carbon Neutral Operations
We are actively working toward carbon-neutral operations by 2028 through a combination of energy efficiency upgrades, fleet electrification, and verified renewable energy procurement. Our annual emissions are audited and reported transparently.
